Northern Allegheny
Sampling extension of 3RQ
WV Water Research Institute
Extension of Sampling - Northern Allegheny River Basin
Northern Allegheny sites were established in 2013 to extend 3RQ's geographic reach and create an extensive regional baseline dataset.
Sites were sponsored by the Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited (IFTU).

Division of Allegheny Basin
3RQ routine Allegheny sites are located within the southern region (orange). Extension sites are located within the northern region (yellow).

Northern Allegheny Sampling Sites
Sites are found along the Allegheny River and its tributaries in northwestern PA and southwestern NY.
Site sampling (2013-2018)
96 grab samples were gathered with regards to the the following parameters:
Alkalinity, TDS, pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolved metals, and anions (bromide, chloride, sulfate).
Bromide (2013-2018)
Chloride (2013-2018)
Dissolved Sodium (2013-2018)
Summary
Most sites had good water quality in regards to the parameters measured. With the exception of the Clarion River, there was no evidence of acid mine drainage. Impacts from unconventional oil and gas activities on water quality at the monitoring stations also appeared to be limited.
An extensive regional baseline dataset now exists that can be used to compare with future conditions.
