SAWMPO Bike & Ped Regional Connectivity Study Map Viewer
Learn about the region's existing, funded, and proposed bicycle & pedestrian facilities.
Welcome to the SAWMPO Bike & Ped Map Viewer version 1.0 overview! The Map Viewer is a companion tool to the SAWMPO Bicycle and Pedestrian Regional Connectivity Study, which evaluated existing and funded bike and ped facilities to assist with establishing a continuous multi-modal network between Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro.
This short walk-through is intended to orientate users to the map layers. Starting off, the map shows existing sidewalks, park trails, and currently funded bike/ped projects in the region.
Click on the map to the right to zoom-in and see the layers.
Connectivity gaps were identified based on the location of existing and funded facilities. The red segments indicate a "system" gap that is critical to establishing an east-west connection.
View the Connectivity Gaps memo.
The orange segments indicate "corridor" gaps, or primarily shorter north-south segments between system gaps.
Based on the gap identification and site analysis, three preferred routes were identified to address the system and corridor gaps:
North Route: New Hope-Saint James (New Hope-Saint James-Entry School)
Central Route: U.S. 250 (U.S. 250 from the Staunton City Limit to the Waynesboro City Limit)
South Route: Barterbrook-Lyndhurst (Barterbrook-Ramsey-Tinkling Springs-Ladd-Lyndhurst)
The map catalogues proposed bike and ped projects identified from regional studies and plans since 2004.
