East Lothian Council

Local Development Plan 2 Call for Sites - Information associated with the Site Assessment Methodology

Call for Sites

East Lothian Council is carrying out a Call for Sites exercise which will allow interested parties to submit locations for development along with supporting information. The information provided through the Call for Sites will help us undertake a Site Assessment Methodology which eventually will feed into the development of the LDP Spatial Strategy.

The Call for Sites is open to all development uses. Submitting a site does not guarantee inclusion in the LDP. The Council has yet to set its Housing Land Requirement therefore the number of additional housing sites required is currently not known.

This document accompanies the Call for Sites survey and provides context to interested parties when completing the Call for Sites survey.

Site Assessment Methodology

The LDP2 Site Assessment Methodology consists of six stages with the aim of finding the best locations for development in East Lothian over the next 10 years and beyond. The criteria in the Site Assessment Methodology are based on the principles set out in the National Planning Framework (NPF4). These are Addressing the Nature and Climate Emergencies, making the best use of Infrastructure and helping to improve Human Health.

Some of the six stages of the assessment process involve utilising different layers of mapping and other data to determine where best to locate future development. This document goes through some of the stages and provides details of these layers and data so those submitting sites into the LDP process can understand which locations the Site Assessment Methodology is referring to.

It should be noted that the information provided here is the most up to date at this time and the boundaries and data may change during the preparation of the LDP. Where changes are made the most up to date information will be used when implementing the Site Assessment Methodology.

We are seeking a wide range of land uses as part of the Call for Sites exercise and therefore not all criteria will be relevant to every use.
