Portside Tavern

Discover the history

The Portside Tavern was built in 1878 and was originally named The Royal Exchange Hotel. It now has a National Trust listing.

The 12 foot wide balcony of the hotel used to be a popular rostrum for open air, civic, political and union gatherings.

Thomas Magor was the first licensee between 1878-1885. The Portside Tavern was once Port Pirie's grandest hotel.
