Switching Sides

Amelia Lobo and Blayne Lowry rival their previous high schools as Bearcat athletes this season

Competing on these fields and tracks is nothing new to these athletes. What's new is the team they are competing for.

Junior Amelia Lobo and sophomore Blayne Lowry are athletes previously competing against Paso Robles for different high schools, but now they rival their former high schools, as Bearcats this season. Both athletes described their excitement for their respective sports this coming spring sports season.

Sophomore, Blayne Lowry, started his freshman year at Nipomo High School (NHS) where he was the starting quarterback for varsity football, as well as center fielder and pitcher for Nipomo’s varsity baseball team. After the 2024 fall semester, Lowry made the move to Paso, for the 2025 spring semester. On top of this, he made the PRHS varsity baseball team.

Despite it being early in the baseball season, Lowry described Paso Robles’ team as “having a better chemistry” since he has been playing with many of them since he was extremely young. Lowry has been playing with many of them starting at the age of six in youth baseball leagues. Because of this he looks forward and expects that this season will be a good season. Lowry explained that he was, “nervous to play with them but once I got out there the nerves went away.”. He looks forward to playing in Nipomo again, but this time as a Bearcat and securing a win against his former high school. Lowry hopes to be a part of the PRHS Varsity Football team, as a starting quarterback next year as a Bearcat.

Lobo's 2025 Spring Sports Season Track

Junior, Amelia Lobo, started her first year as a Bearcat this 2024 school year. She previously competed for Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School for track and field. Now Lobo is excited to compete against her former teammates in the 4x100 relay at future meets, as a Bearcat. She transferred to PRHS specifically for the track and field program because Mission did not have a track nor did they have a pole vault coach. Lobo said, “we had to rent out Cuestas (SLO campus) track for practices” so coming to PRHS with its own track was thrilling. Despite starting the school year here, Lobo cannot compete for PRHS until April due to CIF rules, making her even more anxious with excitement to compete. She looks forward to clearing the 11 '6 (ft) bar in pole vault, as a Bearcat. As well as achieving even more personal records this year.
