SCSC Petition Priorities Map
2024 - 2025 Cycle
Scroll to the bottom for an interactive map that will allow you to determine whether your proposed location is within a priority area.
Interactive Map
Use the interactive map below to explore the areas of interest to you. Instructions on how to select and unselect layers are below the map. A description of each layer can be found within the slideshow below the instructions.
ADDRESS SEARCH
The search feature allows you to enter a specific address to see if it falls in a priority area. Click the magnifying glass symbol on the right side of the map and a box will appear. Type the address of any location and the map will zoom to that location. If the address is five miles or more from a charter school it is in a priority area. Five miles is represented by the larger buffer circle around each charter school for the relevant grades served (light blue, light purple, light teal).
MAP LAYERS
The map has 12 layers. A map layer is a collection of geographic data. To select and view different layers:
STEP 1: The legend, located on the left side of the map, should already be viewable. However, if it is not, click the legend icon in the bottom left corner of the map. The legend contains each map layer. The map opens with all layers selected.
STEP 2: To view only certain layers, expand each dropdown and click the elements you want displayed on the map. When an element is highlighted in blue, it means it is being displayed. As a reminder, the map opens with all elements selected; thus, you will need to unselect the items you do not wish to be displayed.
The image to the right indicates that all elementary charter schools will be displayed on the map.
- Triangles represent state charter schools (SC)
- Dots represent locally-approved charter schools (Y)
- The other two dots (N) and (others) are not displayed on the map.
Click through the slides below for a description of each layer.
Petitioners must independently verify the locations of existing charter schools.
