Homeless in San Diego County
COVID-19 is a highly contagious virus that has caused a pandemic. People who are especially vulnerable to the virus are the homeless. These people have fewer resources to aid them if they become sick from the virus. This dashboard is hosted by the COVID-19 Research Hub at the HDMA center, San Diego State University.
The map blow shows sheltered and unsheltered homeless people in Sub-Regional Areas (SRA) in San Diego County. Sheltered homeless are represented by light blue circles while unsheltered homeless are represented by dark blue circles.
Note that data representing less than 5 cases is suppressed and replaced with "0" to preserve confidentiality.
As of April 25th, 1,088 homeless San Diegans are staying at the San Diego Convention Center from other shelters and from off the streets. 1,500 homeless could be sheltered there eventually. Although only 19 of these people have obtained "permanent or long-term homes," as of April 27th, the Housing Commission board has been given permission to discuss buying hotels to house them.
