Forests owned by the Oregon Board of Forestry are sustainably managed to provide environmental, social and economic benefits to all Oregonians. By law, the majority of revenue generated from state forests must be distributed to counties and schools and used to provide public services. State Forest Management Plans establish the goals and direction to manage state forests.
The Western Oregon State Forests Management Plan (FMP) provides management direction for all Board of Forestry Lands (BOFL) west of the crest of the Cascade Range. This plan is intended to achieve a proper balance between economic, environmental and social outcomes, and achieve the greatest permanent value to Oregonians.
The Oregon Board of Forestry has set a goal for the revised plan to improve financial and conservation outcomes. Any new plan must achieve Greatest Permanent Value (GPV) mandates to balance the triple bottom-line: Financial viability, conservation, and recreational opportunities. The Board has directed the State Forests Division to propose a plan with the goal of improving financial and conservation outcomes.
Most state forest lands covered under this plan (approximately 613,000 acres) are in 14 counties across western Oregon. The three largest blocks are the Tillamook, Clatsop, and Santiam State Forests. Smaller tracts are scattered throughout the planning area.
