1

Satek Winery

Satek Winery started as a commercial vineyard, selling grapes to other Indiana wineries, in 1992.  The intent was to eventually open our own winery as a “retirement” business.

The vineyard was established on land owned by the family on the north end of Lake James. The land was purchased in 1915 by Pam Satek’s great grandfather Fred Kreibaum. The land was a working apple orchard for many years, but had grown wild when the Satek’s started the vineyard in 1992.

Groundbreaking for the winery was held in late 1999. The winery opened on June 30, 2001 with Pam, Larry and one part time employee. Satek Winery currently has 24 employees.

All the original wine in 2001 was made from grapes grown in Satek Winery’s Lake James vineyard.  The winery opened with four wines, although eventually 12 wines would be released during 2001.

Although vineyard acreage has increased, the winery’s needs have outstripped the growth and Satek Winery has had to purchase grapes.  Most (80%) are from other Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania vineyards to remain as close in character to our grapes as possible. California grapes are also purchased.

Wines grown on Satek Winery vineyards have won gold medals, and Best in Class awards, from dry red and white wines to semi-sweet red and white wines.

Fruit Hills Winery & Orchard

Welcome to Fruit Hills Winery and Orchard! We are David and Michele Muir and in 2010 we opened a new farm winery in Northern Indiana with the help of our son, Nathan, and daughter-in-law, Brittany. Our winery is located 2 miles south of Bristol on State Road 15 on the  Judson Fruit Farm . The farm has been in David’s family since 1852 where it began producing fruit around 1898, and we continue growing fruit to this day.

We currently have approximately 2 acres of vineyards planted and continue to expand on that. We focus primarily on newer cold hardy varieties such as Marquette and Frontenac Gris and this spring we planted a new cold hardy red grape named Petite Pearl. We also grow Vignole and Traminette. Traminette has been designated as Indiana’s signature grape and is a hybrid grape that produces a wonderful white wine with pronounced aromas similar to one of it’s parents, Gewurztraminer. We also purchase grapes and juice of varieties that are not feasible to grow in our locale such as Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Merlot etc. We also produce several fruit wines including our signature Apple wine which has cherry juice added to it to give it an extra measure of complexity and flavor.

You will be greeted warmly when you visit our winery in the scenic fruit hills of Bristol. We have an attractive, and inviting tasting room where you will have the opportunity to sample all of our different wines. You may also step outside onto our large deck, or front porch, and enjoy the view while having a glass of wine.

Running Vines Winery

Wine is all about balance.

The perfect blend of flavors, working in harmony together, produces magic. For us, wine and running are two key ingredients for a balanced life, too. Each bottle of wine marks a personal milestone in owner Nicki’s life. “I won’t name a bottle after a race I haven’t run,” she likes to say.

So whatever your race is: Slow down. Celebrate. You’ve earned it.

Visit our tasting room located in the historic downtown of Chesterton, Indiana. We’re just minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan and an hour from downtown Chicago.

Explore our wine selection and meet owner Nicki, who you’ll usually find behind the counter doing what she loves best: serving wine to guests.

Hartland Winery

HOW IT STARTED

When Alan planted a vineyard and then started making wine in Brenda’s kitchen in 2006, there was never any thought of opening a winery. But, when he started entering wine competitions and winning bronze, silver, gold and double gold, it became clear that he had an untapped talent; so Alan and Brenda started making plans. Those plans took 7 years to come to fruition but we are so happy to share our dream with you. In 2018, after being opened just a little over two years, Hartland Winery was awarded Indiana Winery of the Year at the Indy International Wine Competition. The Indy International is a blind judging based on the quality of the wines submitted. We were, and still are, both humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award.

THE VINEYARD

Our vineyard is planted on 4 acres with 6 varietals. By having our own grapes we have more control over the quality of the wine we make. We have Lacresent, Vignoles, Ives, Norton, Seyval Bland and Vidal Blanc. Along with our own vineyard, we also have growers in the area that grow grapes for Hartland Winery, allowing us to take advantage of locally grown grapes as much as possible.

“Small Batch & Handcrafted” is not just a trendy tagline—it’s the way we do business. It's the driving mindset behind everything we do. Our mission is to produce small batches of wine with lots of care and thoughtfulness poured into them. By doing so, we can have a wider variety that is at the peak of flavor and freshness. We may not be the largest producer of wine in the area, but we hope that you’ll agree that we put our special touch into each and every small batch we make.

We are currently and always will be a work in progress. We never want to be stagnant and set in our ways. We are constantly honing our skills and experimenting with different varietals, ideas, and processes. This is where we believe true innovation and a unique product will come from. We have also found that this idea and perspective on wine making has given us some unique flavors of wine that we think are pretty special. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Country Heritage Winery*

Constructed on our family-owned farm, Country Heritage Winery & Vineyard gives true meaning to its name. The farm has over 100 years of family heritage. We have generations of experience growing excellent crops, and it is our greatest pride to nurture our grapes from the day we plant the vines through the day you enjoy our wine.

We maintain over 70 acres of vineyards and several acres of blueberries. We work with highly regarded vineyards and farms to source the rest of our fruit. With meticulous care and attention to detail, we strive to nurture the best grapes for our wines. After all, if the fruit is great, the winemaking is easy.

7

Schnabeltier Winery

Schnabeltier is the German word for platypus. The schnabeltier is an amazing animal made up of many different parts to create a unique whole. Our founders thought the name was fitting for our company, which is the only facility to focus on beer, cheese and wine production under the same roof.

Our high-quality artisan cheeses are crafted to pair exquisitely with our award-winning wines and exciting craft brews. Utilizing old world methods and locally sourced ingredients, we produce delicious, fresh products that are better together.

Main production at Schnabeltier is out of a modern 7,500 square foot facility in Rochester, IN. It features state-of-the-art cheesemaking, winemaking and brewery equipment and a large cheese aging room that can hold up to 20,000 lbs. of cheese. The front of the building features a large retail space for wine, cheese and beer tastings, parties, and direct sales. Outdoor seating is also available during the summer months to enjoy the warm weather and events.

McClure's Orchard/Winery

McClure's Orchard & Winery is a family-run apple farm located north of Peru, on U.S. Highway 31. Just over twenty years ago, Paige and Jerry went looking for a new adventure. They happened upon an overgrown orchard, trees tall and full of suckers with a lawn unkempt, lonely and detached from its community. Throughout the sixty-acre spread, only one apple grew! Since, we have worked hard to reclaim the Orchard, turning it into a flourishing apple farm and restoring it as a place within the community for everyone to enjoy.

In 2009, we began a new venture at the apple farm... we became a farm winery, producing hard ciders and wines from the fruits and vegetables grown on site. Since then, Jason and his wife, Alison, have continued to expand our offerings. Many of the ciders and wines have become award-winners!

In 2019, we opened a secondary location in Downtown Peru, at the "Toll House" to bring our farm to town. The Toll House offers unique gifts and home decor, a wine tasting bar & some of our orchard favorites!

10

Fruitshine Wine

Our Winery is located on a farmstead, established in 1890, in Carroll County, Indiana. We purchased the farm in 1999 and immediately planted fruit trees to add to the orchard. As time passed, the fruit we didn't sell we started turning into wine. I use the same wine-making techniques passed down from my Spanish great-grandma and grandma, who used to make wine for the family. We started sharing our wine with family and friends to re-establish the tradition. Soon it became apparent to us that there was a great demand for our fruit wine.

We decided to open our winery to share our family tradition with everyone. We use only local, hand-picked, tree ripened fruit in the production of our hand-crafted, artisan created, small batch wines. No concentrates used here, just honest seasonal fruit. There is 1.5 lbs of tree ripened fruit in every jar we craft. It is a lot of fruit, but we refuse to compromise the integrity of great-grandmas wine. This is accomplished by refusing to use less fruit or lower quality ingredients. When we stand in the orchard, pick a peach, bite into it, and the juice drips out, that is the day we harvest the fruit. This is turned into wine that captures the fresh flavor in a jar. We believe the great taste of fresh fruit produces the best tasting wines.

There are no preservatives or sulfites used in our wine.

So stop by our family farm and enjoy free samples of our outstanding fruit wines in our screen porch tasting room (built in the shadow of our 1910 oak barn). Additional outdoor seating is available. We know once you find your favorite flavor you are sure to want more.

13

Hooker Corner Winery

Hooker Corner, Indiana is a an extinct town that was located in Pine Township in Warren County, Indiana, west of the town of Pine Village. A few buildings, including a one room schoolhouse established by George Hooker, were once at the location. Today, Hooker Corner Cemetary is still located at the site.

Scott and Jae Ann Brier loved spending their free time visitng wineries, and decided to start making their own wine in 2015 to share with family and friends. In 2017, they began making plans to open a farm winery on their property near Hooker Corner, Indiana. Jae Ann's grandmother had attended Hooker School and social media posts would tag the couple at the location, so it only seemed fitting to name the winery after the extinct town also.

Hooker Corner Winery opened on September 4, 2017. In keeping with the double entendre that the name Hooker Corner established in some people's minds, the owners used the same concept to design the wine label and name the wines. The winery has a tasting room and outdoor patio with a wonderful countryside view. Visitors can enjoy free wine tasting, enjoy glasses or flights of wine, wine slushies, cheese flights, or other menu options indoors or while searching for wildlife on the patio.

14

Tonne Winery

In 2009 Larry Simmons and Kevin Tonne opened Tonne Winery. With their respective backgrounds in Horticulture and Food Science they began producing varietal wines. In 2014 Tonne Winery was awarded Winery of the Year by The Indy International Wine Competition. Since that time they have continued to produce award winning wines and have recently added a new line of hard ciders and DeBrand Chocolates.

15

Blackhawk Winery

Blackhawk Winery was established in 2011 as a result of an epiphany of "why not open a winery?" It is really just a hobby that has gotten out of control. We realized we had a 5-acre field being leased out for soybeans that could produce a reasonable amount of grapes to support a small winery. We also had a large pole barn that we could partition off and renovate a 2500 sq ft area for wine production and a tasting bar. Plus, there is the wide array of critters running around to make it interesting and memorable for potential visitors!

We had the opportunity to purchase the land on the north side of our property in 2016 which we did so we could expand our vineyard. This will give us a larger variety of estate-grown grapes plus some land for events.

The Owners

The winery & vineyard owners are John and Deb Miller. John is a recovering electrical engineer, having worked in the semiconductor industry. If you've used an Intel CPU in your computer, John has probably been involved to some degree with its manufacturing process. He had been a hobby winemaker for years, starting out with kit wines before expanding to buying grapes and eventually working as Blackhawk Winery's winemaker. Deb is a veterinarian who is busy tending to our herd of "baby doll" sheep we bought in hopes of managing weeds in the vineyard. She has the critical role for the winery as the official wine taster. Sorry for her, but someone has to do the job!

Our Approach to Wine Making and Wine Enjoyment

I was going to call this our "philosophy for wine" but that sounds too academic. Wine is simply meant to be enjoyed. Period. There shouldn't be anything stuffy about wine or wine drinking. We've visited wineries where they felt their wine belonged on a marble pillar rather than your table. We roll our eyes with some of the over-the-top descriptions portrayed with some wines and feel the numerical scales used for grading wines tend to be arbitrary at best and misleading at worst.

Our goal is to produce quality wines with locally grown fruit. Sorry, it is too cold for Cab Sauv and Moscato grapes to grow in the midwest. And while this limits us to using hybrid and American grape varieties, it allows us to make unique blends and wines that you simply can't find on the typical grocery store shelf.

Having come from the west coast, our tastes in wine run drier than the typical midwest pallet. This means that our wines will not be as sweet as is often found in the area. We will only sweeten a wine to achieve balance in flavor, aroma, and mouthfeel. We make wine, not syrup!

Country Moon Winery

Like a new vine shoot, life unfolds one leaf at a time.

People often ask if the winery was a lifelong dream of ours. Well, yes, it did start with a dream. Not for a winery, but for a log cabin in the woods. In 1985, early in our marriage, we found a quaint wooded lot surrounded by farmland. At that time, Prairie Baptist Road was a gravel road, one of the last remaining in Hamilton County. The property was pleasantly remote from the developing cities. We both felt called back to the country, to our families’ farming heritage.

For many years we worked on house plans and groomed the woods, adding many native trees and shrubs. Finally the log home emerged in 1992. But we were busy with our “regular” jobs (Brian in natural gas engineering and Becky in graphic design) and sadly took little time to enjoy our realized dream. We would soon be challenged by a lesson from the grapevine.

In the first cupped leaves of a new shoot, what might look like a tiny cluster of grapes takes shape. However, this is not fruit; rather each tiny sphere opens as a flower needing pollination. The little “cluster” inspires both a hope for the future and a responsibility for the fragile process ahead.

As life unfolded, we purchased a $40 winemaking kit in 2003. Instantly inspired, we were planting grapevines the following spring in the back acreage of our existing property. Our plans grew to include a winery and an event venue. We witnessed for ourselves how the pollinated flowers drop their petals and gradually swell into grapes. Each season the new shoots grew in length toward the sun gathering nutrients for the cluster and the vine. The lesson of the grapevine (only one of many) was to have a dream, yes, but more importantly to savor life as it unfolds, one leaf at a time.

Ours was not a lifelong dream but it has become one of long life. It is the idea that having a vineyard will keep us active and healthy into our later years. Country Moon Winery provides us the opportunity to welcome visitors from all over the world. We are happy to share our property as people stroll through the vineyard or have a glass of wine in the shade of our humble log cabin. You can share also with us the world as you have seen it. This is the rich fruit of our labor, the true harvest.

Sugar Creek Winery

It began with one of those half serious, half joking comments after dinner and several bottles of Cabernet when someone says, “you know, one of these days we should…

“Well, that night, with three families around that table, it was filled in with, “grow some grapes and start a winery”. In most instances, these ideas are quickly forgotten in the next morning’s bright sunshine of reality”.

But this time is was different. There was land and equipment available. There was farming experience represented along with marketing and sales experience. And there was a desire. So what was lacking? Someone to actually make the wine. No problem. It’s only chemistry, right? And there was chemistry major at the table, too. We’re good to go!

The land, aka the Cain Family Farm, was actually founded in Northwest Montgomery County, Indiana as a dairy farm. Over many years the dairy evolved into a successful corn and soybean enterprise. The family farm is managed today by Zach Cain along with his brothers, Jess and Seth and cousins Adam and Josh. In August 2009, Zach married Marie Phillips. At the table that historic night was Marie and Zach, Marie’s folks, Sherry and David, along with Zach’s dad Terry and his wife Amy. Now its Zach and David who have taken the idea and planted the vineyard in 2012 and continue working towards the fulfillment of the plans that were on the back of a napkin that night.

A trade he works to perfect, and continues to bring only the finest, award winning wines to the customer. When Hopwood Cellars Winery opened its doors on June 5, 2012, in Zionsville Indiana, it was quickly noticed by the consumer that these wines were not average, but are superior wines. Ron, with his wife Janet and a full staff, search out the best grapes from vineyards in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. When asked what sets his great wines apart from others, "I produce wines with a very strict regiment, with many grapes sourced from this region, local is very important". What started out as a hobby, has grown very quickly into a large business that has definitive plans for future growth. Cheers!

Madison County Winery

Eric got into the hobby of making home-brewed beer. He soon ventured onto home-made wine. Eric liked to share his creations with his family and friends. His friends liked his beer and wine so well that they asked him if he would start selling it to them. Since he can't legally sell them wine without a permit, he decided that he would like to obtain the proper permits so he could. He decided to talk to his parents about helping him start a winery. They thought his wine was good and felt that it would be a good venture and agreed to help him out. We purchased land south of Markleville and built a small, two story barn to make the wine in. In April of 2010 we moved the tasting room to downtown Pendleton. A year later we moved the tasting room to Pendleton, we expanded our shop to allow us more well-needed space.

We started out producing two red wines: Ruby Red and Amber Red, both are now retired. We then expanded our wine selection to add Mead and different types of Hard Ciders. Since then we have added many other wines including Blackberry, Chocolate, Cayuga, Seyval, Cabernet Franc, ports and many more.

In 2014, we decided to move our tasting room and gift shop back out to Markleville. So, we built a new facility which included a bigger space to make our expanding selections of wine.  The move back to Markleville allowed us to have more seating area for our guests.

So, if you are wanting to find something to do, come out to Madison County Winery to try our variety of unique wines. During your visit, you can enjoy a glass of wine on the porch overlooking the vineyard or enjoy a glass of wine by the fire.

Holtkamp Winery

Established in 2013, Holtkamp Winery is a family owned, boutique winery offering a variety of wines to suit many tastes. Doug Holtkamp started making wine in 2002 stemming from his love and enjoyment of drinking wine with friends and family. This continued passion led him to start his own winery. By teaming up with Jeff McCann, who has over 35 years in the winemaking and grape growing industry, they combine their knowledge and experience to create a great quality and selection of handcrafted wines.

Bringing in 7 different grape varieties from California, as well as estate grown grapes, Doug and Jeff make a great selection of wines ranging from dry, semi-dry red and white wines, to sweet fruit wines and dessert wines. Today we are growing 16 varietals and plan to increase that number in the future.

We invite you to come visit our tasting room located in Dearborn County and try one of our award winning wines!

23

Melton Renzulli Winery

My wife, Becky, and I started on this venture simply by being lovers... of wine. As we increased our knowledge of the process and experienced the wine life through traveling, visits to a multitude of wineries & other 'wine-o destinations'... we have come to discover our deep appreciation and wonderlust for wine and all the experiences involved, both in and out of the glass.

In Italy we learned that wine is more than just a drink, it is a way of life. Winemakers treat their land, vines, grapes and process with a love like that of a husband to his wife or a mother to her children. The care that goes into one bottle of wine to present the drinker with the best possible experience is unmatched by any other industry. From the flavors, the aromas, the depths of character, and the friendships we’ve made- we now understand what those passionate Italians were talking about.

I started experimenting with winemaking in 2010 (...a month after our wedding). After 679 days of paperwork and red tape, my first label was approved ("Black Cab") and ready for sale! Our wines are served at Roscoe's Coffee Bar & Tap Room and Firehouse BBQ, and we are on the brink of having our own building to open a wine bar. The plan is to have a wine bar in Richmond, IN where wine drinkers, both newbies & connoisseurs alike, can enjoy our wines along with wines from all over the world. Keep an attentive ear and watchful eye out for The Cordial Cork!

Because we're still working on our own vineyard, we take grapes grown all over the world and turn them into wine right here in Richmond, Indiana. I enjoy being able to make a wide variety of different wines, designing labels and watching faces light up when it hits their palate.

Looking back at our country’s entrepreneurial boom, I can’t help but feel connected to those who lived the American Dream, and with the blessing of our Lord and Savior, and the support of our friends, family and community, we’ll be living our own soon enough.

THANK YOU to ALL of the believers, our loyal customers and each person who's helped along the way.

Easley Winery

THE DREAM

Easley Winery began as the dream and vision of Jack & Joan Easley in the late 1960’s. Making wines as a hobby in their basement in Indianapolis, Jack and Joan dreamed of growing grapes and making wine in Indiana. Jack was an attorney and Joan owned her own market research business. After learning it was illegal to make and sell wine in Indiana, they invested in a small vineyard in southern Michigan. The long drives on poor roads quickly became old, and Jack & Joan decided to see if the Indiana prohibition laws could be changed. Fortunately, there were other dreamers in Indiana such as Karl Banholzer, Mike & Liz Mancuso, Mary & William Oliver, Ben & Lee Sparks and Dr. Don McDaniel.

THE DETERMINATION

A group of about 12 people began meeting regularly to plan how to change Indiana’s laws. The group adopted the name Indiana Wine Growers Guild and often met in the living room of Jack and Joan’s house. Being a lawyer, Jack incorporated the Indiana Wine Growers Guild with the Secretary of State of Indiana. Finally in 1971, Indiana law was changed to allow wineries. Jack & Joan purchased the former Fertig Ice Cream factory in downtown Indianapolis and had their first grape crush in the fall of 1974. This facility is still in its original location. Located in downtown Indy’s Cole Noble Commercial Arts District, the winery is centrally located in the state

THE FUTURE

Today, second generation owners Mark & Meredith Easley continue the family tradition of creating and selling award-winning wines and champagnes made right in the heart of Indiana. Easley Winery offers 20 or more wine and champagne offerings depending on the year and season. Great wines are meant to be shared, and at Easley Winery, we’ve been creating memories since 1974. Stop in for a wine tasting or find us in local grocery & package liquor locations. As for the future, the possibilities are endless...

They started making wine at home in 2014 and fell in love with the process and the product. The plan was to start slow by planting an acre of grapevines and go from there. In the past 3 years they have added several acres of grapevines and lots of new equipment for winemaking. They plan to return to growing slowly. Their dream is for people to be able to come in the tasting room, enjoy the wine, relax, and hopefully return many times.

When they aren't working, camping, or traveling, they are in the vineyard or winery. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

Mallow Run Winery

Mallow Run is the product of years of hard work by John Richardson and his son, Bill, and Bill’s wife, Laura. John grew up on the farm, moved away to teach school for 35 years, and then retired back on the farm with the intent of growing grapes to supply other Indiana wineries. Bill, who grew up dreaming of living on the farm, settled into the original Mallow/Richardson home after graduating from Purdue with a degree in Agriculture. Bill met Laura (Emerson) while playing in the Carmel Symphony and with a shared love for music, wine, and the farm, they married in 2005.

The first grapes were planted in 2000, with more to follow in subsequent years. The vineyards now cover 12 acres of the family’s 600-acre farm. On the remainder, more than 50,000 bushels of corn and soybeans are still raised each year. With expanding vineyards taking root, an  aging barn with great potential , and the desire to share our love of  fine wines , the decision was quickly made to open our own winery right here on the farm.

On September 3rd, 2005, the dream was realized and the tasting room opened to the public.

Mallow Run is a stream whose waters wind their way through our family farm and flow past the winery on the way to the White River. Its namesake, George Mallow, settled this farm in 1835 and some time after  built the barn where the tasting room is now located . Seven generations later, his family still lives on the farm and wishes to share their corner of the world with you!

Oliver Winery

We're not afraid to have our heads in the clouds. You could even say dreaming big is what Oliver Winery does best. What started as a hobby back in the 1960s, has grown Oliver Winery into an employee-owned company and one of the largest wineries in the U.S.

Oliver is a world-class destination, ranked among Travel + Leisure's top 25 wineries to visit in the U.S. in 2017. In 2018, Wine Business Monthly named Oliver one of the 50 largest U.S. wine operations.

As we grow, our philosophy remains the same. We believe that all styles of wine deserve the highest craft and respect. We make our top-rated wines in the gentlest way possible, and each one of them share one common characteristic: fruit-forward taste.

Butler Winery

Jim and Susan met at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1969. Jim grew up near Dayton, Ohio, and Susan grew up in Indianapolis. They were married in 1972. In 1973 they moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where Jim attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota. They moved back to Bloomington in 1976 and Jim started working at Oliver Winery doing lab work and working in the cellar. He became winemaker at Oliver Winery in 1977 and left in 1982.

Jim and Susan opened Butler Winery in downtown Bloomington on North College Avenue in 1983 along with Jim’s father John. They planted their first grapes on their Robinson Road property in 1992 and moved all the wine production to that location in 1995. The downtown Bloomington location still serves as a satellite tasting room selling wines produced at the vineyard and an extensive line of home-brewing and wine making supplies. Butler Winery opened a satellite tasting room in Chesterton, Indiana in 2008. Butler Winery is the 4th oldest winery in Indiana. In 1998 Jim led the effort to establish the Indiana Wine Grape Council based at Purdue University and served as president of the council for 10 years. He currently sits on the council with title of Past President. Jim is a past president of the Indiana Winery and Vineyard Association and is currently the acting Treasurer. Jim, along with son John, wrote the book, Indiana Wine : A History (published by Indiana University Press, 2001) establishing the little known fact that Indiana was the first successful commercial wine producing state in the country.

In 2006 Jim petitioned the Federal government to designate the unglaciated portion of South Central Indiana as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) called the “Indiana Uplands”. The petition was approved in 2013. One of the benefits of the AVA is that wineries using grapes grown in the Indiana Uplands can use the term “estate bottled” on the label. The winery continues to grow and more land has been cleared at the Robinson Road location to increase the size of the vineyard over the next couple of years. They have 3 sons (John, Joe & Andy), 1 daughter-in-law (Amy) and 1 nephew (Eric Sundin) working in various aspects of the business.

Brown County Winery

Dave and Cynthia Schrodt opened Brown County Winery in 1986 in a small retail shop located in the heart of the Village of Nashville behind the Nashville House. Dave, a winemaker, felt that Nashville was a prime location for a small winery, since the community was deeply rooted in the arts. The gentle rolling hills made for the perfect backdrop. The first year they produced five wines. As the demand and popularity for their wine grew, they soon outgrew the original winery and had to build a winery on their private property near Lake Lemon just to keep up with the demand.

Dave and Cynthia set a goal to produce high quality local wines, while offering them at a reasonable price. They wanted their customers to have an educational and enjoyable tasting experience, in a relaxed atmosphere. Dave worked hard to produce award-winning dry, semi-sweet, and sweet wines from French Hybrid grapes grown in the Midwest and from a variety of berries and apples.

In 2000, the winery expanded again by opening a larger winery and tasting room in the distinctive area of Gnaw Bone, a short five miles east from the Nashville. Your visit to Brown County Winery will prove to be an enjoyable, satisfying, and a highlight of your trip to Brown County. Watch the wines being made through large glass windows in the winery tasting room.  We planted a small demonstration vineyard of Catawba grapes in 2018 and expect to be making small batches of estate grown wine in 2020.

At Brown County Winery, we are not afraid to use berries, stone fruit, or any other type of fruit to create the next new product. Although our bestselling wines are sweet and semi-sweet, we also offer award winning dry wines. Our wines exemplify what Brown County is all about, handcrafted and locally made products. We believe that quality wine should be available to everyone regardless of their experience. Finding a wine to match your individual taste is easy whether you're an experienced wine consumer or a novice.  Click here to view our current wine list .

Both locations offer free wine sampling, gourmet foods, and wine-related gifts. Open 7 days a week.

Salt Creek Winery

Located in the rolling hills of Southern Indiana and bordering Hoosier National Forest, Salt Creek Winery was established in 2010 by Adrian and Nichole Lee. Starting as a hobby, winemaking became a passion for us. Using the finest ingredients, we strive to produce quality wines that are minimally processed. We believe that mechanical filtering and chemical fining takes a certain quality out of the wine. Therefore, we only filter and fine our wines when absolutely necessary for shelf life.

We are proud to say that every bottle of Salt Creek wine has been produced, fermented, cellared and bottled by us.

Although some of the finest wines in the world are produced from grapes, there are other fruits that also produce truly delicious and unique wines. "Country" Wine is a favorite of Hoosiers. Along with grape wines, we produce wines from fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, cherries, plums, raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants.

Our 100% fruit wines are fermented as if they were grapes and are not back sweetened with fruit juice or concentrate. When fermented, each fruit develops its own unique character, much like a grape, and we prefer to allow this character to be dominant in the flavor of the wine and not to be masked by the flavor of unfermented juice.

We welcome the public to visit our Freetown Tasting Room and also our downtown Nashville Tasting Room. Please "like" us on Facebook to keep up to date with future events and live music.

Madison Vineyards

At Madison Vineyards Estate Winery and Bed & Breakfast we are dedicated to the production of quality wines from our own estate grown grapes. Located five miles north of the Ohio River and the historic river town from which we take our name, award winning Madison Vineyards focuses on producing wines from grape varieties currently being grown in our beautiful 40-acre property.

The winery offers free wine tasting and wine related gift items. Enjoy a variety of cheeses, summer sausages and crackers on the large deck overlooking the vineyards or in our grassy picnic area.

In 1802, following a failed attempt near the Kentucky River outside of Lexington, a group of Swiss immigrants established the first successful commercial winery in the United States near what became Vevay, Indiana (20 miles east of Madison). By the middle of the 19th century thousands of grapes were being grown along the Ohio River Valley, from Cincinnati to Louisville, an area which was then known as "The Rhineland of America". Wine pioneers like John James Defour & Nicholas Longworth established vineyards and sold their wines from the Mississippi frontier to the Jefferson White House. Bank failures, vine diseases and Prohibition combined to destroy those vineyards. Today, at Madison Vineyards, we are committed to the revitalization of that lost heritage. Our small family owned and operated winery is dedicated to the rebirth and re-establishment of Ohio River Valley winegrowing.

Our vineyard, planted on well-drained, south facing hillsides in the heart of the Ohio River Valley Viticulture Area, matches soil, sunshine and variety to grow beautifully matured grapes which produce International Gold Medal wines.

We hope you enjoy your travels through our website and look forward to meeting you soon in our tasting room or during a stay at the B&B. Take a minute to Escape to Madison Vineyards Estate Winery and Bed & Breakfast and join us in our family's toast; "To Friends, To Family & To the Good Earth!"

Hunter's Ridge Winery

This is a business owned by two families that have been friends for many years. They planted a vineyard in 1999 and have finally decided to build a winery.

Winery overlooks this picturesque vineyard, which supplies the grapes for all estate wines.

French Lick Winery

French Lick Winery opened for business in 1995 in the Beechwood Mansion in French Lick, just down the road from its current location. As the winery grew and began to produce more varieties, it became evident that we needed more room. In 2004 we began renovations on a spacious section of the Kimball Piano factory and in 2005 we opened French Lick Winery along with the Vintage Café, and large gift shop. Large glass windows line one wall and allow for comfortable viewing of our production area.

The tasting bar is a prominent feature in the building. Trained wine servers lead our guests through the expansive list of over 30 different wines, ranging from dry to sweet, fortified and sparkling.

Our tastings are $8 for 10 wines. You are also able to sample our slushies or craft cocktails as one of your choices. Please keep in mind that tasting bar selections are subject to change based on seasonal availability. We also offer wine flights at the table as well as wine slushies and a craft cocktail bar.

Heaven’s View is the name of our vineyard and it sits on Kim Doty’s family farm.  Kim’s family farm was designated a Hoosier Homestead farm in 2015 having been in her family for 128 years.  The property was passed down to Kim in 2000 from her mother.  She is the 5th generation of women in her family to own the land.  The farm has passed through women for the last 5 generations and will be passed to Aaron and Nick as the 6th generation to own it. It will stay in the family as one of Nick’s three daughters will continue the tradition as the 7th generation.

The farm is located in Rutherford Township in Martin County. Cattle and swine were raised on the crops grown on the 515 acres of tillable soil and wooded areas. It is now used to grow grapes and grains for the winery and distillery. The 8-acre vineyard was planted in 1997 on the highest spot on the farm overlooking the east fork of the White River, on one of the highest elevations in Martin County.  Traminette, Noiret, Steuben, Catawba, Cayuga White, and Chambourcin are some of our varietals growing there.

Huber Winery

When in 1843, Simon Huber settled this Southern Indiana farm, he brought with him from Baden-Baden, Germany his years of experience in fruit growing and wine making. From its humble 80 acre beginning, the farm has expanded to over 600 acres. Simon’s vision has been perpetuated through the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th generation Huber’s living and working on the farm.

In the vineyards, 18 different varieties of grapes are grown for the production of our varietals and blended wines. As Indiana’s largest wine-grape producer, our vineyards will produce nearly 400,000 pounds of grapes per year under normal weather conditions.

Next to the restored 1938 barn is the underground Wine Cellar. Within our cellar, the old world art of winemaking combines with the most modern equipment and technology to manifest our magnificent vintages. Every bit of our hard work has paid off with over 900 gold, silver & bronze awards from wine competitions from all regions of the United States. This same quality has been passed to you. We sincerely hope you will plan a visit to Huber Winery to sample and enjoy our wines and hospitality.

Winzerwald Winery

We at Winzerwald Winery build our lives around family, friends, and community. We invite you to share in our German family heritage and become a friend of Winzerwald Winery and a fan of Winzerwald’s German-inspired wines. Our great, great grandfather Jakob Loesch was a cooper (wine barrel maker) in Germany and brought wine grapes when he came to America in the 1800s. These grapes still grow in the deep, fertile Ohio River Valley soils and we produce a limited edition wine called Heirloom from this yet-to-be identified German mystery grape.

To honor our ancestors, our German inspired winery offers  wines  made from grapes typically grown in Germany such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Meunier and wine styles made in Germany such as Mai Wein, Gluhwein, and Ice Wein. We look forward to seeing you at our small family winery perched atop a ridge in a beautiful setting in the Hoosier National Forest.

Winzerwald Winery (German for “vintner of the forest”) is owned by Dan and Donna Adams, and is located on 85 acres of rolling lands in the Hoosier National Forest along Interstate 64 in Perry County. The winery is located about half an hour north of Tell City, Indiana via SR 37, one hour east of Evansville, Indiana via SR 66, and an hour west of Louisville, Kentucky via I-64.

The winery celebrates Dan and Donna’s German heritage and the Swiss and German heritage of the area by offering unique German and Swiss-style wines, gifts, festivals, educational tours, and fun. Early German settlers believed the Hoosier National Forest reminded them of the Black Forest and the Ohio River was as beautiful as the Rhine River.

Mr. and Mrs. Adams each have certificates from Purdue University in both viticulture and enology. Dan Adams previously worked for Wollersheim winery, the largest winery in Wisconsin. The winery serves top-quality German inspired wines and offers a relaxing & educational experience in a beautiful vineyard and winery locale atop a ridge in the Hoosier National Forest.

Turtle Run Winery

Turtle Run Winery is known for incredible scenery, insanely complex dry red and white wines, sweet wines with no sugar added, a Sunday concert series with some of the regions best bands and the most unusual winery tours imaginable!

THE NAME

When Laura and Jim first purchased the farm in 1997 to begin the dream of owning a winery, we quickly noticed a large population of turtles on the property including a large alligator snapper that crossed the driveway the second time they saw the farm.

This abundance of turtles provided a unique idea of naming the winery. Since then, the popularity of Turtle Run Winery has grown beyond the local region and has attracted winery visitors from all across the United States and many countries as well. Many visit simply for our namesake.

The turtle or love of turtle collectibles attracts some of our patrons to visit the winery. The story or how the name came about is a staple of our Winery brand.

THE SCENERY

With rolling hills, the winery and vineyard is completely surrounded by woods. Mixing classic old barns, with natural and added flora, it’s very easy to relax and unwind. And if venturesome, grab a glass of wine and wander through 15 acres of vines!

THE WINES

With 30 wines on the list, we hope, and think, we’ve got a wine for you. Our winemaking is both classic and super-modern! Check out the 40 barrels of wine, all neatly stacked and aging future vintages. Jim follows a lot of classic French winemaking techniques, so a sip of Max’s Small Batch Red will indulge your taste buds on the art of blending dry reds. A sip of Catherine’s Blend demonstrates that American sweet wine doesn’t need added sugar. Or a sip of “The Chard” shows how super cold fermentation can intensify the fruity flavors in a lovely dry white.

THE TOUR

A visit at Turtle Run Winery is not complete without a crazy tour from Jim Pfeiffer, our owner and winemaker! A consummate student of wine and vines, Jim has done extensive research on taste, viticulture, winemaking, and the history of wine. And he likes to share what he knows. And he goes off in tangents! And nothing’s canned! Or rehearsed. For that matter, I don’t think he’s given the same tour twice and he’s done way more than a 1000 tours. Five minute tour! Sure! Want the half hour version! Let’s do it! Probably the best part is Jim likes to explain the “why” and the “how” behind everything. Ask him about barrels. Does the shape of a wine glass change the flavor! Absolutely! And he’ll explain why. If you ask him how taste works, he may end up counting your taste buds! For sure he’ll certainly tell you how your subconscious interprets flavors. Tours at Turtle Run are extremely entertaining and quite informative.

TASTINGS

Sometimes we think we’re crazy to offer them, but then again, it’s pretty cool to be able to sample the wines first! Our staff is very good at listening to what wines you like and make selections based on your preferences. The cost for samples is $5 for 8 samples (or so).

Best Vineyards

Best Vineyards started as a crazy idea to grow some table grapes and make a few bucks off the farm Wilbert had purchased back in 2000. Rachel, Wilbert’s sister was a somewhat reluctant participant at the time. Berretta, Wilbert’s other sister, hopped on the crazy wagon a year or so later. A local farmer of corn, wheat, and soybeans used the land at the time and we thought that trying an alternative crop would be an interesting experiment. So began the search for the “perfect” crop to plant that didn’t take too much time to, too much experience, and gave a decent return on the investment and was fun to do.

Looking at the Purdue University Horticulture sites’ alternative crops pages we reviewed herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, brambles and other veggie crops. Then we happened across the listing for grapes. There was a reference to this weird little group called the Indiana Wine Grape Council who were planning a meeting within a few weeks at Huber Winery.

Wilbert attended, thinking at the time of growing table grapes. To be honest, we didn’t have a clue about wine or wine grapes or really anything about agriculture at all. Arriving at the meeting, Wilbert was introduced to several people who were all chatting insanely about grapes. These people were serious! Think about it, 8 hours of sitting around discussing grapes! Asking around, we discovered that in addition to Ted Huber, Jim Pfeiffer had opened Turtle Run not too far down the road from the farm.

The next weekend, Wilbert hopped in the truck and moseyed on down to check out Jim Pfeiffer at Turtle Run. Anyone who’s met Jim can attest that he’s a little…. enthusiastic…. about grapes and wine. Harvest was coming up quick and Jim invited us over to check out the operation. It was INSANE! There were grapes everywhere!

After that, we paid another little visit to Huber Winery. Ted said we were as insane as Jim to think about growing grapes. Unfortunately, by that time, we’d pretty much made up our minds. We were taking the agricultural plunge! Talking to the folks in the business, everyone recommended starting with an acre. Anymore and you’d kill yourself trying to keep up they said. We decided on 3 basic varieties – Chambourcin, Chardonel, and a few New York Muscats just to be a bit odd like everyone else.

We’re pretty much a family of engineering types. Out popped the calculators figuring our vine counts for an acre of grapes. It came out to about 600 vines. Looking at the vine suppliers web site we discovered that if we went with 1000 vines we’d get a 5% discount! Who can pass up a discount like that? Out popped the calculators again. After a few days, Wilbert discovered that at 1500 vines you got another 5% discount! I think you can see where this is going. We wound up buying 2500 vines. “But just look at the money we saved!” said Wilbert.

In April of 2002 we were nearly set to plant. Wilbert took 3 days of vacation and started drilling the holes with an auger to plant the vines. 3 DAYS! It was April. It was sunny and 80 degrees! Wilbert’s head got sunburned! Drilling all day Wednesday. Drilled all day Thursday and Friday too. Then Friday night it happened! Rain!!! Saturday morning dawned a cold, blustery 34 degrees and there was a constant wind blowing across the site all day. We were stuck. We’d been soaking the vines in water. We had to plant. We, and about 10 friends and family, mudded in the vines on the most miserable day of the year.

After that things got really tough…

But the grapes actually survived our care…

Two years passed and we were sitting around plotting the sale of our crop. Jim Pfeiffer stepped up and saved the day. Next, how to get our grapes from here to there? I mean really! We were struggling to just keep up with growing the things, who plans ahead like that? Fortunately, Purdue has a mobile press they allowed us to borrow to process the harvest at our farm and deliver juice to Jim. Let’s just say that our first harvest was an interesting experience and leave it at that…

As we were processing the juice, we wondered how hard it would be to ferment it and make wine. To be honest, we were always a bit curious about how it was made. As children we were told wondrous tales of how our grandparents made homemade root beers and hard ciders. Curiosity got the cat as you know. So we saved back a few buckets of juice and gave it a try. It actually turned out. So, we got some more juice and tried it again. That time things didn’t go nearly as well. But, we persevered, and kept trying and experimenting and felt we finally had some idea of what we were doing.

Thus was born the idea of our own winery… the further the tale goes the more bizarre it gets.

Come on by and we’ll be happy to tell you the rest…

The Tipsy Glass Winery

Winemaker Audrey Muhlenkamp started making homemade wines in 2012 after learning about the process from a home wine making club presentation a the Lafayette Historical Society's wine & beer festival fundraiser. Soon after she bought the equipment to make a batch and has never looked back. At first she made wine as gifts for family and friends for weddings, Christmas, house warming gifts, etc., but before she knew it people were begging to be able to buy them. Since homemade wines aren't to be sold, she began looking into the permitting process to open a small winery.

To boost her confidence that her wines had retail viability, she started entering some wines into wine competitions in 2015 to get professional feedback. The first two wines entered won silver and bronze medals from the Winemaker Magazine Amateur Winemaker Competition. Six of 7 wines entered into the Indy International Wine Competition in 2016 earned medals, including one gold.

Confidence boosted, Audrey started working towards finding a location for the winery. She grew up under 1/2 a mile from the recently closed Bearcreek Farms Country Resort which was looking for a new opportunity to start bringing people back to the property. An agreement was struck for space utilization, permits applications were filed and equipment ordered. 5 months later, the first wines started fermenting in late October 2016.

The Tipsy Glass plans to bring both the best of the Midwest and the world to Indiana wines. We will be buying juice and fruit for our wines from some of the best wine making areas from around the world to bring you wines you'll love to share with family and friends just has Audrey has for the past several years.

Carpenter Creek Cellars

Carpenter Creek Cellars is the full realization of two dreams: Ed Courtright wanted to grow grapes in northern Indiana to supply wineries in the area, and Randy Rottler hoped to start a small winery. After meeting and discussing some preliminary business ideas, Randy and Ed created a dynamic partnership, starting a small winery and vineyard. Carpenter Creek Cellars began construction in late 2011, opening to the public on March 23, 2013.

Ed’s first grapes were planted in 2002, with the help of his son Byron (these grapes are now known as “Byron’s Vineyard”). The “Big Vineyard” (1.1 acres of Traminette) followed Byron’s Vineyard in March 2012. With vineyards taking root (and plans for more acreage as the winery progresses) and a restored 1919 barn with great growth potential, we desire to share our passion for fine wines and good times with northwestern Indiana and our out-of-town visitors.

Come and visit us – we offer free daily tastings, weekend tours, music events, and plenty of Midwestern hospitality.
