Earth has a new island

Rebirth

Most of the time it feels like the Earth is a fixed entity. The maps we reference everyday are always outdated - At best they are a rough representation of our planet at a split second in time as the land is reshaped at every moment. Nishinoshima Island is some of the newest land on Earth. Volcanic activity that strongly roared back to life in 2013 has rapidly expanded the island to roughly 20 times the size of the original caldera island that sat inactive for around 10,000 years. The latest volcanic activity has engulfed the old island within a span of just a few years.
