Railway Station

Discover the history

Opened in 1902 and was constructed in a striking Victorian Pavilion style, making it unique among South Australian Railway buildings. The Station continued to be used until 1967 when a new railway station was needed for the new standard gauge. The building's design assured its retention as a museum and is now a National Trust Museum.

The grounds house the Old Customs House which was built in 1882 and the old police station which was built in 1892.

These buildings house displays of local housing, blacksmiths, local shops and the Port Pirie Smelters.
