Scroll down, or select a subheading, to learn more about what is happening on the Avon rivers and why it matters.
Why is the Avon so important?
Chalkstreams are England's equivalent of a rainforest. This unique habitat is home to many species of fish, riverflies, birds and mammals.
The River Avon is one of the richest chalk streams in the world. It supports one of the most diverse fish populations in England and over 180 species of aquatic plant have been recorded.

Despite having the highest form of environmental protection (designation as a Special Area of Conservation and Site of Special Scientific Interest) and being a globally rare chalkstream, the River Avon and its tributaries are in trouble.
If we can't look after our most protected of rivers, what hope is there for those that have no designation?

More information on pressure sources is available on the Hampshire Avon Catchment Partnership hub.
