Sounding the Bay

An eco-acoustic story walk, created in partnership with local community

About the artwork and interactive map

Sounding the Bay is an eco-acoustic story walk, created in partnership with local community. Led by Saltwater Projects director and artist Natalie Davey, Sounding the Bay is designed to be heard as you imagine walking (or actually walk) along the foreshore in Geelong, Port Phillip Bay/Naarm. The 30 minute walk is along a foreshore trail and uses pre-recorded sounds from hydrophones, science/cultural creation stories and local histories. People can listen to the recording with headphones to guide their foreshore walk or follow a map if listening remotely.

The story walk was created to take people on learning experiences, connecting them to their local foreshore, history and broader ocean issues. It is narrated by Jennifer Vuletic and N’Arwee't Professor Carolyn Briggs, a descendant of the Yaluk-ut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung, and Elder in Research in RMIT’s College of Design and Social Context.
