WHAT IS THE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM?
The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is the region’s four-year capital improvements program for road projects, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, transit, and other transportation enhancements in mid-Michigan’s Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties.
Using the goals and objectives identified in the region’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) , the TIP plans for the implementation of specific transportation projects that will address the needs or gaps in our existing transportation system. As it only includes projects that have confirmed funding sources (also known as “fiscally constrained”) the TIP follows a Fiscal Year (FY) schedule. This means that the FY 2023-2026 TIP will take effect on October 1, 2023 and will include projects planned through the end of September 2026.
The projects included in this map were scored and recommended by our Capital Area Regional Transportation Study (CARTS) Technical Committee for TCRPC Board of Commissioner approval. After approval from our Board of Commissioners the TIP document, including the project list were then reviewed and approved by Federal Transit Authority and Federal Highway Administration.
