All the facts and information you could ever want to know about Disneyland. By: Madison F. and Abigail D.

Walt Disney's opening day speech.

Introduction

It all began one day by a man named Walt Disney. Walt was sitting at Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California with his two daughters. He dreamed of a place that adults and children could both have fun together. Later that place would be known as Disneyland. Today Disneyland has become one of the top 25 most visited theme parks in the world with a revenue of 18.4 billion dollars per year. On October 16, 1923 Walt Disney and his brother, Roy, founded the Walt Disney Company. This is the beginning of what would soon become a worldwide phenomenon.

Walt Disney Company

After Walt came up with the idea of Disneyland, he a lot of work ahead of him. The Walt Disney Company, was founded in 1923. The WED Enterprises, Walt Elias Disney Enterprises, is part of the Walt Disney Company. In 1928 Walt Disney, and the help of his employees, created the first Disney character, Steamboat Willie. Steamboat Willie eventually became known as Mickey Mouse. During World War ll, animation became too expensive, so Walt made the decision to start creating live action movies and documentaries. Walt decided to build the theme park in Anaheim for affordable land and the year round warm climate. He originally wanted it to be built across the street from his studio, but government vetoed his idea. Eventually Walt Disney was able to get a place to build Disneyland in Anaheim. He gave the workers a one year time limit. One year and one day later Disneyland was built and opened. That day was July 17th, 1955.

Theme Park Revenues Around California

There are many theme parks around California, but very few theme parks compare to the high revenue of Disneyland. Here are a few of the parks in California:

Universal Studios (Hollywood) - 3.34 Billion

Knotts Berry Farm - 108.2 Million

Six Flags Magic Mountain - $15,768,000

LEGOLAND California - $520, 640,000

Seaworld - 1.37 Billion

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - 60 Million

In the map you see to the right there is a point for each of the theme parks listed above. Disneyland has made the highest revenue of any theme park in California, which is $18.4 billion. Although Disneyland makes a very high revenue they need to pay their employees, also known as imagineers, and they need money for food, fireworks, merchandise, ride maintenance, and many other things. Employees at Disneyland get $15 per hour. When you do all the math, employees earn about $43,800 per year. That amount can vary depending on the the type of job.

Hidden Mickeys

Hidden Mickeys are one of the most iconic things a Disney fan will look for at Disney theme parks. They are three circles that form a Mickey head. There are about 1,000 Hidden Mickeys at Disneyland. The first one was found on a ride called Adventure Through Inner Space. Ever since then Hidden Mickeys have been popping up all over the theme park.
