The first Post Office in Port Pirie was established in 1873 in Brown and Wood’s Store in Ellen Street, opposite the present building, with Nicholas Simons as Postmaster.
A handsome stone single story Post and Telegraph Office was originally built on the present site in 1880.

The current two story Post Office was built in 1910 and was renovated and added to in early 1997.
Port Pirie South, Risdon Park, Risdon Park North, Pirie West and Solomontown areas all had postal services available to the residents. Solomontown operated right up to October 1993
