What Are The Pros and Cons About Tucson Parks?

How can we improve community parks?

Where did we go?

On January 29th, Billy Lane Lauffers future city, student council, and 7th grade math honors visited Brandi Fenton's Memorial Park and Thomas Jay Park. Throughout the visit, students noticed some pros and cons of each park.

Brandi Fenton Park

Students started at school and then went to Thomas Jay park and Brandi Fenton Park throughout the day. My team and I explored the parks and took pictures of things on a given list and things that caught our eye.

What are some fun facts about both parks?

Some fun facts that I noticed about Thomas Jay Park were there was a bridge that led to a baseball field and a walking trail. I thought that was cool since I’ve been there many times before and never noticed that. Another thing I noticed was the different buildings there, including a foodbank and community center that offers programs to people of all ages.

Brandi Fenton was named after a 13-year-old girl who passed away due to an automobile accident in March 2003. Her family and Pima County joined together to create Brandi Fenton Park. Brandi Fenton Park also has a splash pad for kids. I think that's very unique for a park.

Wrap-up: How do these Pros and Cons prove we should improve our park communities?

What both parks include

Both parks share similar cons. I think we can improve Tucson's community parks by making sure they are free of vandalism, providing more clean drinking fountains, and making sure our parks are litter-free.

I think Brandi Fenton is cleaner and nicer because of its unique amenities and use of colors. If those were added to Thomas Jay, it would improve the quality of the park.
