El Paso Equity Atlas

Traditional measures of equity analyze where people live and work, but what about where people spend the remaining hours of their day?

El Paso Atlas of Inequality

Using mobility data, we can analyze where people of different socioeconomic levels visit various locations around the City. Socioeconomic status is determined by using the device's home block group and derives the median household income of that block group from the 2019 ACS.

The "Inequality Score" is determined by using the entropy index, which compares how different the socioeconomic characteristics of a particular location are to the City overall. A location whose visitor demographics are significantly different from that of the City would be considered "very unequal" while those that are similar would be "very equal".
