Water Bodies Challenge

We are a GLOBE group of the Elementary School Rugvica and in this Story map we will show you the natural beauties of the Sava in our area and the measurements we perform according to GLOBE protocols.

What is the importance of the water body for environment and community?

The importance of the Sava River for the environment is exceptional. With the help of water, plants have easier access to nutrients for their development, animals also value the same water, one of the most important sources for life. It is very important for the community of our municipality because the association Sava Boatmen sails on the Sava River and preserves the customs related to the Sava River.

They carry out environmental projects and exhibitions, preserve ethno material and work on training people to ride boats. Every year, they invite guests to sail on the Sava boat, taste carp, ride in a carriage, and even swim in the Sava. However, once a year they change their uniforms and become Santa Clauses, that is, "Sava Grandfathers" who give Christmas packages to the youngest in Rugvica. The specificity of this gift is that Santa Claus does not come on a sleigh with reindeer, but in boats on the Sava.
