Kapapapuhi Point Through Time

1

Kapapapuhi Point Park

Kapapapuhi through my eyes

Retuning the abundance to Pu'uloa and giving back to my community in ways that will uplift and support the future generations.

2

Invasive Mangrove

Mangrove surrounds the shoreline at Kapapapuhi. Mangroves are super detrimental to the ecosystem here and effects the habitats of our natives species and damages the soil making it harder for our native plants to thrive.

3

The mouth of Honouliuli Stream

Since the Malama Pu'uloa team and the 10,000 volunteers that has came into this site in August 2019 we were able to connect honouliuli stream to the waters of Pu'uloa and because of this the native species in the area has came back home. Native plants were planted on the shores are starting to thrive and we are starting to see our native shorebirds nest and make honouliuli stream their home once again.

4

One of many projects

Our biggest efforts right now is clearing out the mangrove from the Loko i'as and clearing the surrounding areas to make way for more of our native species to flourish. Out planting is a huge factor in keeping our shores clear. We are slowly but surely raising our native plants to eventually out compete all the invasives in the area. With the crew and community we were able to open this puka.

Hope Spots / Lo'i/ Loko I'a

We dream that one day this area will return to an abundant rich place for he community to come in and utilize to help support their ohana.

Lo'i occupied this entire area, our next goal is to bring back the Lo'i Patches so we can start feeding our communities. It is known the fish here is no good to eat, slowly but surly we will restore the waters of Pu'uloa so our community has a safe area to come and feed their families.

A dream for myself

For me a as a lei maker, gathering in my community is so hard because we don't have much access to a bunch of things. I am working towards a gathering place at kapapapuhi for lei makers in the area to come and have access to the mea they want/need for making lei. I see this gathering area as a place for us to come and build Pilinia within our selves and community.

I see a future of us adapting and returning abundance back to the Ewa moku.
