Robinson Road Corridor

Online Open House

Welcome!

Nampa Highway District No. 1 (NHD) and the City of Nampa (the City) are working together to plan future improvements for Robinson Road, between Franklin Road and Deer Flat Road - the "Robinson Road Corridor".

This interactive website will introduce you to the project (currently in the planning phase), share work completed to date, and ask for your feedback.

Open House Overview

This open house is organized into four sections:

  1. Project Overview - Learn about the Robinson Road Corridor Study and what it will do.
  2. Road Segments and Improvements - Explore the study area and learn about recommended road improvements.
  3. Share your Feedback 💬 - Provide feedback in a brief survey.
  4. Next Steps - Learn about next steps and how to stay up to date on the project.

Project Overview

Together, NHD and the City are developing conceptual improvements for Robinson Road between Franklin Road and Deer Flat Road in Canyon County.

This area of Canyon County is anticipated to grow substantially over the next 20 years. To address this future growth, the two agencies are working together to develop improvement concepts that support convenient and safe travel for all travelers, including people driving cars, freight haulers, pedestrians, and people on bicycles.

The purpose of this effort is to:

  • Address future growth with proactive planning.
  • Develop context-sensitive improvement concepts that address future traffic growth and enhance safe and convenient travel for all.
  • Identify solutions to minimize or avoid potential property impacts like purchase of right-of-way (ROW) and other property impacts.
  • Develop planning-level construction cost estimates.
  • Develop an implementation plan for constructing corridor improvements over time as budget becomes available.

It is important to note that funding to construct proposed improvements has not been secured at this time. Therefore, the study will recommend multiple separate construction phases to help NHD and the City prioritize and schedule projects as funding becomes available.

Project Timeline

The study began in January 2023 and is expected to continue until December 2023. The graphic below summarizes the timeline for the study. This online open house is reflected in the "Online Public Meeting" during Summer 2023.

The information obtained in this study will be used by NHD and the City to begin looking at potential ROW acquisition as they prepare for future growth along the Robinson Road Corridor.

Road Segments and Improvements

Road Segments

As shown in the interactive map above, the Robinson Road Corridor is divided into seven (7) road segments:

  1. Franklin Road to Airport Road
  2. Airport Road to Victory Road
  3. Victory Road to Amity Avenue
  4. Amity Avenue to Cruse Lane
  5. Cruse Lane to Locust Lane
  6. Locust Lane to Lewis Lane
  7. Lewis Lane to Deer Flat Road

Both NHD and the City have identified Robinson Road as a critical north-south connection through Canyon County. Proposed improvement concepts are and will continue to be designed to maintain Robinson Road's ability to accommodate future demands.

Proposed Improvements

Multiple improvement options were developed for each of the seven study segments. After an initial review, NHD and the City are proposing the following improvements for the corridor.

Proposed improvements to Robinson Road Corridor generally include new:

  • pavement and travel lanes along the corridor
  • shared-use paths to facilitate safe pedestrian and bicycle travel along the road
  • buffers to create physical space between traffic and shared-use paths
  • curb and gutter in some places to support drainage
  • gravel shoulder in some segments

Right-of-way (ROW) acquisition will often be required to construct recommended improvements. This study is in its early planning phase; therefore, exact property impacts are not yet determined. Actual ROW impacts will be heavily influenced by ongoing conversations with property owners and community members.

New Pavement and Travel Lanes

The most significant change to Robinson Road Corridor is widening the road to provide additional travel lanes and/or center turning lanes. Over the next 20 years, this area of Canyon County is anticipated to grow and will increase traffic and congestion on Robinson Road Corridor. Adding lanes increases capacity of the road to support convenient and safe travel through the Robinson Road Corridor as the area grows. It is important to note that most property impacts would result from widening of the road to provide additional lanes.

Shared-Use Pathways and Buffers

Proposed shared-use paths can significantly improve walking and bicycling conditions along the Robinson Road Corridor. Shared-use paths refer to wide, paved pathways for use by people walking, bicycling, or rolling. In places where the road is very constrained, shared-use paths are reduced to just one side of the road to minimize property impacts. In other areas, shared-use paths are shifted closer to the road centerline wherever feasible to reduce property impacts.

The image above shows Boise River Greenbelt, an example of a shared-use path and buffer in Boise, Idaho.

An important feature of these paths is creating hard or landscaped buffers to provide physical separation between pedestrians and moving traffic. Buffers are not proposed along some portions of the corridor in an effort to avoid property impacts, resulting in a path that may be "attached" directly to the road.

Robinson Corridor Improvements Map

This section summarizes proposed improvements to all seven Robinson Road Corridor segments. Use the interactive map below to explore each segment. Descriptions and images show recommended improvements for each one.

To view a detailed map of proposed improvements along these segments, please click or tap the button to learn more.

Note: To use the map, click in the map window and zoom in to see each segment.

Proposed Improvements Renderings

Computer renderings of the proposed improvements have been developed to provide a graphical depiction of what the improvements could look like in the future.

NOTE: This is a planning level study; renderings below are for illustrative purposes only. The renderings do not depict final designs.

Exact road configurations, ROW, and other property impacts are subject to further design, obtaining construction funding, and ongoing conversations with community members to minimize and/or appropriately mitigate property impacts.
